ZACH Studio and Cultprint are delighted to announce the upcoming solo exhibition of the enigmatic artist Teebai. "Cincai," Teebai's first solo show in George Town, will run from June 14th to July 21st. The opening reception will be held on June 14th at 7 PM.
Teebai, known for his captivating long-eared humanoids with flower eyes, explores the human experience through simple yet evocative art. In "Cincai," he brings his signature characters to life, transforming the ZACH Studio into a world of Teebai.
Never one to be limited by the medium, Teebai creates work that focuses on viewers’ emotions and experiences. During his residency with Cultprint, Teebai has worked on installations, sculptures and a performance to be presented during the opening reception this Friday.
Engaging deeply with George Town’s artistic community Teebai has created several collaborations with artists residing in Penang. One of them, titled "爽 - Shuǎng," is a playful partnership with Times New Romance (Sheena Liam). This whimsical collaboration features Teebai's iconic character delicately embroidered in Sheena’s signature green thread and braids onto an undergarment.
With the support of local sculptor Chee Peng Low, Teebai has translated his typically ephemeral figures into stunning metal sculptures. Referencing infamous wire sculptures found around George Town, these beautiful objects are the best example of Teebai's satirical and daring approach to his art. A very limited edition of this sculpture will be available at the gallery and on the website.
About the Artist
A founding member of the Form and Void Collective, Teebai is known for his unique and captivating style. His art explores the delicate balance between presence and absence. With a background in animation and special effects, and years of international exhibitions, Teebai’s work features a signature character—a white, flower-eyed, long-eared humanoid—that narrates the essence of the human experience in a simple, "make-do" manner.
