“Culture Shock”, A Group Exhibition by Cultprint in Kuala Lumpur
"Culture Shock" is a group exhibition by Cultprint. This exhibition brings a slice of Penang’s art scene to Kuala Lumpur, showcasing Cultprint’s history through a curated selection of works by the featured artists. “Culture Shock” underscores Cultprint’s commitment to independent and uninterrupted artistic expression, featuring a range of original works, prints and site specific installations by celebrated and emerging artists from Malaysia and around the world.
Founded by artists Ernest Zacharevic and Sheena Liam, Cultprint was first established as a printing studio in George Town, Penang and has since blossomed into a dynamic hub for artists, collectors and the community. With a focus on artistic expression and guarding the artist’s vision, Cultprint gradually expanded into a gallery space hosting an artist residency program. Our past exhibitions provided artists the environment to pursue ideas on a grander scale, forgoing any preconceived limitations about mediums or themes. Through residencies at Cultprint, artists nurtured their pursuits by collaborating, elevating their practice through efforts of skill-sharing and reciprocal teaching.
This first exhibition in Kuala Lumpur celebrates the clash of cultures through collaboration, transforming the iconic CzipLee store into a gallery space. The ground floor features vibrant, playful artworks with dynamic collaborations, while the floor above offers a subtle mood of introspection. The contrast between the two floors showcases Cultprint’s vision and the variety of mediums created by the roster of artists. Curated by Ernest Zacharevic himself, “Culture Shock” celebrates the clash of cultures through an eclectic group of artists and their true artistic expression.
