Kenji Chai
Artist and designer Kenji Chai was born and raised in Sandakan, Sabah, and currently lives and works in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Growing up, Kenji was hugely influenced by comics, cartoons, and storybooks and these influences continue to affect his imagination, as is evident in his art.
He is one of the most recognized graffiti artists in Malaysia and Southeast Asia. Well known for his use of vibrant colors and animal characters. Most notably his alter ego 'Chaigo'. A stray dog character that Kenji adopted a decade ago. The upbeat and quirky stories of Chaigo fall in contrast to the public perception of dogs often politicized by the Malaysian government. Kenji challenges this view in the most positive and consistent way possible with thousands of logo-like Chaigo faces decorating urban corners of Malaysia the region.
